Museums Alaska Welcomes Lauren Johnson to Board

In February, Sarah Owens, Museums Alaska board member of over five years, provided notice that she needed to step down from board service for personal reasons.

Museums Alaska board and staff asked several colleagues for suggestions on who might be able to complete the remainder of Sarah’s term and narrowed down our options, reaching out to Lauren Johnson, President and Executive Director of the Chugach Heritage Foundation (CHF).

Lauren agreed to join Museums Alaska’s board to serve the remainder of Sarah Owen’s term (through October 2025), and Museums Alaska board voted her in according to our bylaws during our April meeting. Lauren’s first board meeting will be Museums Alaska’s May meeting.

In addition to serving as President and Executive Director of the Chugach Heritage Foundation (CHF), the non-profit arm of Chugach, Lauren also served as the President and Interim Executive Director of the Chugach Heritage Museum & Archaeological Repository during their executive director search, and serves on the board of the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Museums Alaska would like to thank Sarah Owens for her service with us, and looks forward to continuing our work with Lauren and the rest of the board to serve our museums and cultural center community!
