The museum is a vital resource for Alaska. The museum’s research collections – more than 1.75 million artifacts and specimens – represent millions of years of biological diversity and thousands of years of cultural traditions in the North. Researchers use our collections to advance scientific discoveries. We are a leader in pre-K – 12 STEAM learning opportunities in the Interior. As Alaska’s only research and teaching museum, we support the university and the state by offering students valuable experiences in both field and lab work, as well as the visitor services industry, educational programming, and the exhibits workshop. We also develop exhibitions showcasing natural and cultural wonders of the North. Our attractions draw more than 80,000 visitors each year.
