Historic Creamer’s Dairy Farmhouse (National Register of Places)

Winter - Saturdays Noon-4:00 PM and during all programs

This Visitor and Nature Center was built in the historic dairy farmhouse after it was retrofitted in 1992 by volunteers and community donations. The non-profit “Friends of Creamer’s Field” started in 1991 and presents educational programs here throughout the year. They also offer “Camp Habitat,” a summer conservation camp, for children ages 4-11. The history of “Creamer’s Dairy” is documented inside this small museum. There is also information on the migratory birds that come through the refuge each year and our local wildlife. Guided nature walks are offered June 1- August 31, Mons-Sats at 10 AM and Weds at 6 PM, led by a trained naturalist. The historic dairy buildings and refuge are owned by the State of Alaska and managed by the Dept. of Fish and Game. There are year-round trails; one through the boreal forest is mostly a boardwalk. The refuge is open 24 hours a day all year and is a multi-purpose refuge.
