At our 2025 Annual Business Meeting, the Museums Alaska Board announced the organization’s new strategic plan. This plan will guide the organization through 2029 with three main goals and 11 objectives.
The three main goals of the strategic plan are:
Strengthening Museums and Cultural Centers, which is pulled directly from our mission statement. How do we do this? By building stronger relationships with museums and cultural centers in our state, providing more resources that will help them meet their missions, build relationships with potential partner organizations so we can better serve our community, explore new services we can provide the field, and prepare for the future by investigating the potential effects of climate change on our field, so we can mitigate its effects.
Improving Our Sustainability, which is a necessary goal for any organization, but for Museums Alaska it’s especially so. We have been able to grow to an organization with one full-time staff member with the support of Rasmushttps://museumsalaska.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2025-2029-Museums-Alaska-Strategic-Plan-One-Page-Graphic.pdfon Foundation, but it’s essential for us to be able to support ourselves beyond the generous support we receive from Rasmuson Foundation. To do so, we will be working on growing our revenue streams, improving our branding and communications, and building our own internal capacity.
Being a Strong Voice for Museums and Cultural Centers, which is focused on advocacy. It’s important for us to advocate for museums, educating the public and public officials on the economic, quality of life, education, and other positive impacts that museums and cultural centers have on their communities, the state, and the country. We also need to ensure that museums and cultural centers have the best language and resources to advocate for themselves. This goal focuses on doing both of those things.
