Historic Creamer’s Dairy Farmhouse (National Register of Places)

About: This Visitor and Nature Center was built in the historic dairy farmhouse after it was retrofitted in 1992 by volunteers and community donations. The non-profit “Friends of Creamer’s Field” started in 1991 and presents educational programs here throughout the year. They also offer “Camp Habitat,” a summer conservation camp, for children ages 4-11. The history of “Creamer’s Dairy” is documented inside this small museum. There is also information on the migratory birds that come through the refuge each year and our local wildlife. Guided nature walks are offered June 1- August 31, Mons-Sats at 10 AM and Weds at 6 PM, led by a trained naturalist. The historic dairy buildings and refuge are owned by the State of Alaska and managed by the Dept. of Fish and Game. There are year-round trails; one through the boreal forest is mostly a boardwalk. The refuge is open 24 hours a day all year and is a multi-purpose refuge.

Pioneer Museum

About: The greater portion of the Museum’s collection has been donated by Pioneers of Alaska. These items tell the stories of Alaska's unique local, territorial and state history and illustrate the triumphs and struggles our early pioneers faced as they sought to tame Alaska's wild, unforgiving landscape in pursuit of their dreams for riches and a better life. Most of the early pioneers followed the gold rush stampedes throughout "The Great Land" and they came from around the world.

Girdwood

Roundhouse at Alyeska Museum

About: The Roundhouse sits 2,280 feet above sea level and is accessible by aerial tram or ski lift. The distinctive octagonal building first served as a warming hut and later as a popular mountain gathering place. Built in 1960, the Roundhouse was placed on the National Historic Register in 2003, and is now a museum and interpretive center.

American Bald Eagle Foundation

Wasilla

Knik Museum

About: Established in 1967, the Knik Museum and Mushers Hall of Fame honors the heritage and culture of the Knik area. Knik was an important village and trade center for Native Alaskans long before miners, trappers, tradesmen and homesteaders arrived. The village became a trailhead for the winter dog sled and summer wagon trails to mining areas and grew to a large town by the early 1900s. The gradual demise of the town began when local businesses moved to the new town of Wasilla that sprang up when the new Alaska Railroad route was built 13 miles north of Knik between Lake Wasilla and Lake Lucille.

Whittier

Prince William Sound Museum

About: 32 exhibits in a 1200 square foot space donated by the Shen family at the Anchor Inn. These exhibits tell the story of Whittier's history as a military port and rail terminal as well as reflections on Alaskan military heritage during World War II and the Cold War.

Willow

Willow Historic and Wildlife Foundation

About: Our museum is now open. We don't yet have regular hour, but we open on special occasional. We're inhabiting the newly renovated Old Log Community Building in Willow. Our focus is on the homesteaders who settled the Willow area, the Indigenous people who preceded the homesteaders, local industry (ie. mining on Hatcher Pass, the railroad, etc.) and the abundant wildlife here in the Susitna Valley and Alaska. We have reinstated and will grow our "Willow Mushers' Hall of Fame".

Tribal House of the Bear

About: Replica of Chief Shakes tribal house built in 1834. Artifacts, photo display, totems, original house posts.
