$24.59 – $26.29 Hourly (DOQ)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general direction, performs professional curatorial duties related to the acquisition, registration, management, security, and care of the museum’s permanent exhibits and loan collections. This position is also responsible for the design, development and maintenance of museum exhibits and displays.

Typical Responsibilities include the following:

  • Researches and recommends the solicitation, acquisition or de-accession of art works, historical objects and archival material for the collections; assists with establishing insurance values; documents in-coming and out-going loans.
  • Supervises the identification, research, cataloging, preserving, maintaining and inventorying of all museum artifacts owned by or loaned to the City Museum; maintains records including source, history, condition, value and location of all permanent and loaned collections; anticipates and identifies collection’s needs.
  • Monitors environmental conditions in exhibits and storage areas; makes or recommends modifications to ensure the preservation of the collections.
  • Develops exhibit and collection management guidelines and policies.
  • Maintains and upgrades collections database, photo-documentation and insurance records of all collections.
  • Maintains and updates permanent exhibit galleries and satellite exhibits; prepares objects for loan, exhibition and shipping; may oversee the work of other staff, contract employees, and/or volunteers to ensure the application of professional techniques and standards.
  • Works with private contractors and/or artists in the design, installation, maintenance and dismantling of temporary, satellite, and permanent exhibits; manages and coordinates the production of exhibit graphics and labels.
  • Provides collections information for newsletter, publicity, reports, grant applications and public presentations.
  • Assists the Museum Director with long-range planning and policy development.
  • Assists with the training and scheduling of volunteers and interns; organizes work assignments, provides direction and assistance to volunteers and interns when performing collections and exhibits tasks.
  • Assists researchers, the public and museum staff with collections and history research.
  • Assists with facility operations; helps ensure consistent and timely open hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in museology; art, anthropology, education, archaeology, history or a closely related field.

Experience: One (1) year of experience working in museum collections.

Substitution:
Other combinations of relevant education and experience will be evaluated for comparability. 2.5 semester hours (3.75 quarter hours) equals one month of experience.
