Conference Scholarships Available!

Donna Matthews Professional Development Fund Scholarships

The Museums Alaska Board of Directors is committed to helping its members to take advantage of attending the Haines Conference through travel scholarships. This initiative is made possible by generous sponsors and income from last year’s meeting in Haines and contributions to the Donna Matthews Professional Development Fund.

Applications (including attachments to be e-mailed separately) must be received on or before Friday, August 2, 2013. Scholarship applicants will be notified of awards no later than August 16th.

Please review the application form carefully, and pay special attention to the requirements. When filling out the application, please provide complete budget numbers, and give comprehensive answers to all questions. Awards are made on the basis of demonstrated need and merit. It is a competitive process; neatness, clarity, and concise —yet substantial—answers count!

We prefer that all submissions be sent electronically to the Scholarship Committee. In the event you must submit on paper, applications should be mailed to Monica Shah, Anchorage Museum, 625 C Street, Anchorage, AK 99501.

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be current individual members of Museums Alaska (length of membership is a positive factor). The museum that they will represent at the conference must also be a current institutional member.

Eligible expenses include transportation costs to/from the conference, lodging, per diem, and/or registration fees. Car rental during the conference is not eligible.

Use of airline companion fares and other sharing of resources (roommate, etc) are positive factors.

Recipients must attend the entire Alaska Historical Society and Museums Alaska
Joint Annual Conference, September 26-28, 2013 in Haines.

For all applicants, attendance at pre-conference workshops and events is optional, but may be included in the costs to be covered in the scholarship application. Attendees primarily attending Museums Alaska sessions will be given preference.

Funds are limited, and partial awards may be given.

Following the conference, recipients must write an article for the Network due no later than Friday, November 1, 2013.

Recipients must pay expenses up-front, and will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts. Reimbursement will not be made without receipts. Receipts must be submitted by November 1, 2013.

Applications must be received by Museums Alaska electronically by August 2, 2013.
