2015 CHAMP

CHAMP 2015 was a great success.  If you missed the live stream of Karen Witter’s advocacy training, you can access the transcript online through ASM’s regular web chats.  Scroll to the bottom of this page for ways YOU can help advance our advocacy goals during the remainder of the legislative session and beyond!

witter-grad-2014-43_2_2AAM Star Advocate Karen Witter was our guest trainer at the Juneau Fly-In, January 28. Thanks to the Alaska Community Foundation for supporting this training through a Strengthening Organizations grant to Museums Alaska. Read Karen’s excellent article on advocacy, Why Advocacy Should Be a Best Practice of Museums. The article originally appeared as a technical insert with the Illinois Heritage Association newsletter. The IHA is a statewide nonprofit service organization in Illinois that has provided technical assistance to museums, libraries, and other cultural heritage organizations for over thirty years.

Museums across the country are playing a key role in education – welcoming 90 million students each year, training teachers, serving home-schoolers, and much more.  Museums are also playing a key economic role, spending $20 billion in communities and supporting 400,000 jobs nationally.  Many museums are also offering innovative programming:  working with under-served youth, offering programs for families dealing with autism or Alzheimer’s, and welcoming military families free of charge.
