DONNA MATTHEWS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Donna Matthews Scholarship provides up to one thousand dollars ($1,000) to a single recipient to cover the cost of attending the Museums Alaska/Western Museum Association Annual Meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, September 17-20, 2008. Scholarship winners are chosen on the basis of past achievements and the long-term benefit conference attendance will provide to the recipient’s home institution. This year, the Donna Matthews Scholarship requires a separate application. The Scholarship program is funded through the Grant-in-Aid program from the Alaska State Museums.

APPLICATION MUST BE MADE ONLINE!

Fill in the online application form below and e-mail resume and travel itinerary to John Lewis ( ). Because the online application must be filled out and submitted in one visit to the website (no saving capability), you may wish to prepare your answers in advance by reviewing this Word document copy of the application, then pasting your answers into the form. Applications, including emailed attachments, must be received electronically ONLY on or before July 7, 2008. Scholarship applicants will be notified of awards and award amounts no later than July 28th (allowing recipients to qualify for early bird registration and airline/lodging discounts).

Please read the application form carefully, and pay special attention to the requirements. When filling out the application, please provide complete numbers for your budget, and give comprehensive answers to the questions. Awards are made on the basis of demonstrated need and merit. It’s a competitive process; neatness, clarity, and concise —yet substantial—answers count!

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be current members of Museums Alaska.
  • Individual members and institutional members are eligible.
  • Eligible expenses include transportation costs to/from the conference, housing, per diem, and/or registration fees including receptions.
  • Recipients must attend the entire meeting, September 17-20. For all applicants, attendance at pre-conference workshops and events is optional, but may be included in the costs to be covered in the scholarship application.
  • Awards will be based on merit and long-term benefit to an institution.
  • Following the conference, recipients must write an article for the Network due no later than November 15.
  • Applications must be received in the Museums Alaska office electronically by July 7, 2008.

BUDGET:

Donna Matthews Scholarship grants up to one thousand dollars ($1,000) for attendance at the conference. When evaluating your budget, the committee expects the proposed expenses be reasonable ones incurred for attendance at the conference only. Please prepare your budget to show what you expect to spend. If actual costs are more, they will be reimbursed to you upon submittal of receipts up to a total of $1,000.
