October 10-13, 2012 in Sitka, Alaska
Museums Alaska Theme: Museums Matter: Connecting with Our Communities
Alaska Historical Society Theme: Alaska on the World Stage
We are looking forward to this year’s Joint Annual Conference with the Alaska Historical Society, taking place October 10-13 in Sitka, Alaska. Full registration information is posted on the Alaska Historical Society’s website. A preview of Museums Alaska sessions and speakers is listed here, as well as the registration form, for your convenience.
Museum consultant and organizational coach Alice Parman, Ph.D., will be the Museums Alaska keynote speaker for Sitka 2012! The title of Alice’s talk will be “Engaging Communities in Exhibit Development,” and directly following her keynote address, she will be available for an “Up Close” Q&A session for direct conversations. But before all of that, she will also be leading a pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, October 10th, entitled “Exhibit Makeovers.”
Please join us for an exciting set of opportunities to learn more about working with communities in the exhibit-making process. Our Sitka Host Committee is working hard to deliver a great time for us this fall.
JOIN THE MUSEUM ANGELS!
The Sitka Historical Society would like to recruit teams for two Angels Projects. The first project will involve 6-8 people to inventory, re-house, and organize nearly three dozen photo albums in storage. The second project will utilize 8-10 people and involve inventorying and organizing a collection of large objects at an off-site storage location. SHS is grateful for this opportunity to involve volunteers at the AHS/MA Conference.
